DOT COTTON BLOODY DOT COTTON

In John Schlesinger's interesting 1971 film SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY you can see EASTENDERS' June Brown crying her eyes out spectacularly in one scene. Look fast and you will also see an uncredited Petra Markham, who appeared briefly in EE in 1993 -- she played Rose, who ran off with Pete Beale, only to be horribly killed off screen.

No soaps watched today -- too busy watching depressing bisexual drama, dontchaknow.

It has to be said that during the wilderness in which EASTENDERS found itself a few years ago, the only thing saving it was the magnificent June Brown, particularly in her tender and utterly believable friendship with Nigel Harman's character Dennis Rickman (seed of Dirty Den Watts). I say we get June Brown in a one-off drama with Darnell Williams; a 'tissues at dawn' duel if ever there was one!

EASTENDERS past 2003 (when BBC America canceled it) is something of an unknown quantity for me. PBS is 5 YEARS behind and I got so tired waiting for them to catch up I don't even bother anymore. I do miss Dot Cotton!

Darnell Williams needs to get out of ALL MY CHILDREN . That soap has become relentlessly plot driven at the expense of character, with the current Who Killed Stuart Chandler story a real low blow.
